More than 700 individuals from around the world traveled to Anaheim last week to attend the 29th ACBSP Annual Conference. Final numbers are still being confirmed and will be included, along with other conference details in the summer issue of ACBSP Update, available for download the last week of July.
Mary Vaughan Appointed Chair of ACBSP Board of Directors; Alejandro Cheyne is Chair-Elect
Vaughan is Dean, Seneca Business at Seneca College of Applied Arts & Technologies in Toronto, Ontario, Canada. She is the first female from outside the U.S. to serve in this position. Cheyne is Dean – School of Management at Universidad del Rosario in Bogota, Colombia.
Gary Mrozinski, Professor of Business at Luzerne County Community College in Nanticoke, Pa., is now chair of the Associate Degree Board of Commissioners. Dr. Freda Hartman, Faculty Chair, Capella University in Minneapolis, Minn., is now chair of the Baccalaureate/Graduate Degree Board of Commissioners.
Dr. Anthony Negbenebor, Dean Emeritus of the Godbold School of Business at Gardner-Webb University in Boiling Springs, N.C., is chair of the Accreditation Governance Board (AGB). Michelle Byrd, Dean – Business & Technology at Greenville Technical College in Greenville, S.C., is chair-elect of the AGB.
2017 ACBSP Teaching Excellence Award Recipients Honored
Two International Teaching Excellence Award recipients were announced at the Salute to Regions Luncheon on Monday, June 26. Congratulations to Karen Lynden, business faculty, Rowan-Cabarrus Community College in Salisbury, N.C., who was chosen from among all applicants representing associate degree-granting institutions, and to Dr. Edward D. Brown, Assistant Professor of Management, Alabama State University in Montgomery, Ala. Dr. Brown was selected from among all applicants representing baccalaureate/graduate degree-granting institutions. Lynden and Brown, both from ACBSP Region 3, each received a crystal award and a check for $500. They were honored, along with the regional Teaching Excellence Award recipients, who each received an engraved crystal medallion and a check for $250.
International Best of Regions Excellence Award Presented to Dr. Christopher Davis from Harding University
Dr. Davis presented a session titled: “From Academia to Industry — Combating Negative Career Effects” at the ACBSP Region 6 meeting last fall, where it was named a Best of Regions presentation. During ACBSP Conference 2017, ten Best of Regions presentations were delivered and evaluated by a panel of judges. The award was announced at the Salute to Regions Luncheon on Sunday.
Team from University of the Incarnate Word Wins Best Poster in the Business of Branding Poster Session
Congratulations to Ryan Lunsford, Professor of Management and Chair, Doctor of Business Administration, Julie Weber and David Stein from University of the Incarnate Word (San Antonio, TX) for their poster, titled: Targeting the Persona of the New Student. The team from UIW, along with individuals from seven other colleges and universities submitted posters in this inaugural poster session, The Business of Branding: Best Practices for Marketing Your Business School and Programs.
