The Martin V. Smith School of Business and Economics at California State University – Channel Islands in Camarillo has received national accreditation from an independent organization.

The Accreditation Council for Business Schools and Programs, which has accredited nearly 3,000 business programs, evaluates universities on specific quality and excellence standards, including teaching, student learning outcomes and a continuous improvement model. The council accredits business programs and not the institution.

To achieve the designation, the Smith School wrote a self-study on its business program, worked with a mentor from the accreditation council and hosted a campus visit by peer evaluators.

Dean William Cordeiro said the accreditation is a recognition of the quality of the degree program’s faculty and curriculum.

“National accreditation will benefit our students and graduates as they pursue further studies and make career choices,” Cordeiro said in a statement.
